Variations on a theme

Mabel repeatedly

As you may have noticed, the camera hasn’t been out much lately. Last weekend I was taking a wildland fire training class, and I just haven’t been able to sneek out of the office to do any photography. I did …

X-Ray Vision

Knowlesville Posted on January 21, 2005 by MattMay 16, 2019
Mabel

We’ve been hard at work in the laboratory this week. You know those x-ray glasses that are advertised in comic books? Well they don’t work. But we did develop this device that looks like an antique frame that when you …

This is one of the photos that will be in my Art’s Alive show. The show opens Feb 5th at Good Relations in Eureka. I exhibited there a couple of years ago, but during the opening we were down in …

Going Shopping

Knowlesville Posted on January 15, 2005 by MattMay 16, 2019
Mabel

Mabel and I worked tonight on a photo for my upcoming show for February’s Art’s Alive. This isn’t it. After a lot of planning, the shot for the show failed, for technical reasons. Not the camera’s fault either, we had …

Santa’s New Sled

Knowlesville Posted on December 18, 2004 by MattMay 15, 2019
Chelsea & Becki

We spend far more time at work than we do at home (unfortunately) so when Lori suggested we get a tree this year, I thought we should put it in our studio so we could enjoy it more. It also …

sunset

If I didn’t tell you where and when this picture was taken, you’d have visions of walking along some warm tropical beach in the summer. Since in reality it was shot in December on a beach in Loleta, and it …

Got Milk?

Knowlesville Posted on December 16, 2004 by MattMay 15, 2019
Maria

It’s very important to leave some nice cookies and milk out for Santa if you want to get some really nice presents for Christmas. It was very nice of Humboldt Creamery to package their milk in the appropriate Christmas colors.

Gift Wrapping

Knowlesville Posted on December 15, 2004 by MattMay 15, 2019
Christmas boudoir

We thought maybe we could attract more business to our studio if we offered complimentary gift wrapping. Since my gift wrapping skills are notoriously bad, and Lori is busy making Christmas presents, I had no choice but to hire someone. …

Chelsea

Chelsea doing her best bad ass cowgirl impersonation. Chelsea stands a whole 5′-1″ tall, and is a very sweet gal, so it does take a firearm and an unusual shooting angle to make that concept work. This shot wasn’t for …

Mabel

I’ve been working on getting used to the new camera so I’ve been scheduling photoshoots with models. Yeah, I might learn as much about the camera taking photos of flowers, but this seemed like more fun. So far I like …

Kate’s 40s Suit

Kate modeling 1940s

Here’s Kate again, this time wearing more clothes, but still playing the sexy secretary. She’s obviously aiming for a raise in her salary

Film Noir with Kate

I put this little office scene together to photograph Kate in some 40s underwear from our collection and a 40s suit from her collection. The typewriter was being sold in last year’s city wide garage sale by my accountant. It …

This is the first corset that Lori and I purchased, and still my favorite as it is by far the fanciest. I’ve photographed it several times over the years, and in fact it was worn by the first model I …

Mysterious Log Lady

Log Lady

Just for the record, this photo was taken a few days after I photographed Haley in the same spot, and this isn’t Haley. Whoever this model is, she’s certainly better looking than the log lady character from Twin Peaks.

Clouds at Dusk

Knowlesville Posted on May 2, 2004 by MattMay 6, 2019
Haley

This shot was taken the same evening, just at dusk. When she struck this pose, I noticed how the lines of her hands and arms followed the lines the clouds formed. One of those chance things that just worked.

Once again Kate has stepped into the time machine, but this time we see her arrival in the 1700s. This corset is Lori’s and she made it for her 1700s riding outfit, which I still need to photograph.

Kate has moved from the 1910s to the 1930s, yet her boudoir still features that grand staircase. How very odd.
