The Rep’s 35th Reunion
Today the Rep had a big 35th Anniversary festival, and one part of that was assembling alumni in the theatre for a group shot. Lighting this had me a bit puzzled as the theatres walls and especially the ceiling aren’t very reflective. So since most of the light was then going to have to be direct, the problem was going to be lighting the crowd evenly. Since if you double the distance from a light source, you get half the light, the backrows were going to be several stops darker than the front row. Ended up borrowing a technique from landscape photography and used a graduated neutral density filter and it worked out perfectly. I’ll have to remember that one.
