Greg land sailing
Greg is a local photographer I met and as some of you know we are working on several joint projects. We’ve been trying for the last few weeks to get together to take pictures for one of them with little luck due to weather and our schedules. Today we were going to try again before the next storm arrived, but we didn’t make it. We went down to Avenue of the Giants to find a few more of the giants had fallen very recently. Greg has already had bad experiences being in the forest during wind storms so we quickly left and decided to head for Bear River Ridge where it would probably be windier, but at least there aren’t any trees to fall down and kill you.
We were driving by this little pond which I think I might have shown before and I told Greg I’d like to find out who owns it to get permission to go on their land. We stopped to look at the pond and noticed that there were whitecaps breaking on the surface. Just for fun we got out to see just how windy it was. Or I should say Greg got out. I tried and thought my door was locked, but when Greg got out I knew it wasn’t. So I tried again. I had to push with all my weight to get the door open, it was that windy.
We took a few pictures of Greg leaning into the wind, and then headed back to the truck. One huge gust really got ahold of me and just about blew me past the truck and down the hill. When I did get back to the truck, I felt like the door handle was going to break trying to get the door open, and once I got in, it was all I could do to keep the door from closing on my leg. I have never been in wind that strong before. We could see the rain quickly approaching so we decided to go back home and call it a day.
