1930 Black Velvet Dress

Date: c.1930

Modeled by: Jessica W.

Location: Benbow Inn

Price: Not for sale

The ultimate sexy, slinky dress; black velvet in a curve hugging, bias cut and accented with cut-out sleeves and rhinestone bands. When we did the fashion show at the Ingomar Club, the audience gasped when this dress was revealed. 10 fabulous Victorian and Edwardian outfits proceeded it, and yet this one got the most audible reaction from the audience.

This dress is also one of the hardest to photograph. Matt uses black velvet in the studio when he wants a solid black background, as black velvet is great for not reflecting any light. That makes it hard to light it to show the detail, without blowing out the model.
