Jessica W. at the Benbow
Sorry the updates have been slow again. Lori and I have both been down with what is called locally, “The Humboldt Crud”. Seems everyone in town has it, sort of like Outbreak, only not so deadly. But at the first sign of helicopters, Lori and I are jumping on the KLR and heading for the hills.
A few weeks ago Lori was interviewed via the Internet for an article on vintage fashion by a magazine that is produced in England. They found her via the internet and will be featuring her web site in the article. So I’ve been busy photographing the collection and adding as much to the web site before the article appears.
Yesterday we went down to the Benbow Inn to photograph a black velvet dress from the 1930s. This is basically the photo project from hell. As Mom knows, I wanted a big piece of black velvet to use for backgrounds simply for the reason that it soaks up light like nothing else. So to photograph a black velvet dress and have it come out looking like anything but a black blob and still be able to see the model’s face is quite a task. Next time I see one of those Black Velvet whisky ads, I’m going to have to take a closer look at the lighting.
