All Fall Down
We went more than 7 months without any real rain, and then to remind us that winter is coming we got hit with a huge storm right off the bat. High winds, several inches of rain, lighting and thunder, the whole deal. This is what our cannas looked like after one night of the storm. I guess it’s a good thing they get cut down to the ground anyways around this time of the year. Since I’m mentioning the cannas, I should mention that they really seem to love it here in Ferndale. That surprises me because they really like heat, and well, Ferndale isn’t known as a hot spot. But I guess the extra moisture and longer days make up for the lack of sun and heat. Whereas the cannas grew to about 6-7′ in San Jose, once they got established here, they grew to about 12′. And it must be true, the taller they are, the harder they fall.
