Dressing the Late 19th Century Woman

Skirt

Skirt

The skirt is the first garment Chelsea has added that will actually be seen by anyone in public. Victorian skirts were usually floor length or longer, as you wouldn't want to be showing any leg. That also meant that they received a lot of wear and tear as they dragged along the ground, through the mud, catching on carriage wheels, etc. It is far rarer to find skirts than bodices, and complete ensembles are even harder to find. The skirt modeled here sees a lot of duty, as it can be worn with many of the bodices in the collection that don't have their own matching skirts.
