Sat, Oct. 2, 2004 - Mental Health Ride
Took today off to clear the head after a hectic week. On top of a bunch of other stuff going on I've been fighting with the installation of my new computer. I'll have a picture of it later. Since I finally got a chance to get a new battery into the KLR, I took it out to further explore an area I went to a few weeks ago. On the earlier trip I found a very exciting road with great views, but it ended up turning into a dirt road. Returning with the KLR I found that road to be very fun and it leads up to a fire lookout station with a great 360 degree view. The ranger stationed at the lookout suggested taking FS30 back to Hwy 36 and I'm glad I took her advice. That road was even better than FS23 that I came in on. I found this little watering hole near that road so I had to stop and take pictures. It has two little creeks that empty into one side of the pond, and also two creeks exiting it on the other side. So there's quite a bit of babbling going on in a rather small space, and it was just the ticket for reducing the stress I was feeling. It also seems like a perfect spot to get a model wet, so I'm sure I'll be returning.
Sun, Oct. 3, 2004 - Unique Mushroom
Right where I parked my motorcycle to take the previous picture, there was this one mushroom. I've never seen any mushrooms before that looked like this, and it was the only one around.
Sat, Oct. 9, 2004 - Linda Visits Ferndale
One sure way to get Linda to visit you is to have an agility dog show in your town, which was the case with Ferndale this weekend. Friday afternoon we had our first storm of the season blow through, and boy was it a duzie. But Saturday morning it was beautiful and it stayed that way for the whole weekend. This photo shows the first event we witnessed, and I really didn't understand it. The people not only didn't jump the hurtles or run through the tube, they all got impatient and instead of waiting their turns, they all ran the course at once. I gave them all ones. (Ok, actually they might have been scouting the course for a later run with their dogs.)
Sun, Oct. 10, 2004 - Mercy
Here's the start of Mercy's jump run on Saturday. Like all great athletes, you can see she's very focused. Mercy actually did very well in both the standard and jump categories on Saturday, which she came away with a blue ribbon, an impressive green ribbon, and Mercy's favorite prize, a brand new frisbee. I'm sure Linda can provide you with more details on Mercy's performance, but from our point of view Mercy performed very well and it was fun to see her in action.
Mon, Oct. 11, 2004 - The Tube
This is one of the obstacles in the jump ring, and apparently, a huge favorite of the dogs. Some skipped whole portions of the route to get right to the tube, and some loved it so much they ran through it twice. Mercy nailed it right both Saturday and Sunday. There will be more photos of Linda and Mercy on her web site shortly.
Tue, Oct. 12, 2004 - Takin' a Break
Mercy seems a bit big for a lap dog, but she seemed pretty happy there.
Wed, Oct. 13, 2004 - Mercy in Action
I got to watch Mercy run the jump course both days, and she is a good jumper, as evidenced in this photo.
Thu, Oct. 14, 2004 - Too Cute
I'm usually not a fan of little dogs, which I usually call little yippy dogs. After all if a dog is going to make noises like it's going to rip me apart, then it darn well better be capable of it. But this little Bichon Frise was so fun to watch. Even though it's only jumping at the 12" level, it would really fly for its size.
Fri, Oct. 15, 2004 - Sexy Secretary
I put this little office scene together to photograph Kate in some 40s underwear from our collection and a 40s suit from her collection. The typewriter was being sold in last year's city wide garage sale by my accountant. It didn't sell during the sale so I picked it up for $5 the day after, thinking it would make a great prop some day. The custom "film noir" shaded lighting was done shooting the light through a venetian blind I borrowed from our kitchen.
Sat, Oct. 16, 2004 - Kate's 40s Suit
Here's Kate again, this time wearing more clothes, but still playing the sexy secretary. She's obviously aiming for a raise in her salary.
Sun, Oct. 24, 2004 - Fall Colors
Three of weeks ago I explored Route 30 and the fall colors were just beginning to show. So when today ended up being a beautiful day for a drive I decided to take Lori back to that area to show her. Unfortunately by the time we arrived Lori was experiencing a pain in her side so she stayed in the truck while I went out and took pictures near the pond. The drive there in the truck was longer than it was on the motorcycle, so by the time we got there the sun was behind the mountain, but it was still very pretty. I was hoping maybe a return trip next weekend could be started earlier, but was probably my last chance to get up there this year.
Mon, Oct. 25, 2004 - Fall White
This is later in the trip we took Sunday, and the reason why I probably won't be going back up there until spring. There is already snow up there, and since most of the roads are dirt, they are turning to mush from the snow and rain we've received already. The last time I took Lori out for a drive up there was in May and there was still snow then, so it ends up being a pretty short season. No snowmen were built this trip however. It's raining again today, and it's pretty cold here in Ferndale so it might be snowing up there where the elevation is above 4000 feet. Lori went to the doctor today and found out the pain was probably just a pulled muscle. Too much yard work I guess.
Tue, Oct. 26, 2004 - More Fall Color
One more shot from Sunday.
